I can’t believe it’s been over a month since I relayed the news that Rumiko Takahashi’s new manga would debut in April. Time has flown; I won’t make any great claims about having much of a life, but having varied interests means that there’s always something else to suck up your attention.

So the news that the new series will debut in Shonen Sunday next week really snuck up on me, even though I’ve been checking in with Rumic World periodically. They have a scan of the announcement in the pages of Shonen Sunday, which apparently reveals little except that the title will be Kyokai no Rinne. The character sketches are a nice touch, but to be honest, they also reveal very little, except that there will be one male lead and one female lead... which isn’t exactly earth-shattering... and that the girl will be a student. We’ll see. Inuyasha is a tough act to follow, to be sure.

BTW, it kind of freaks me out that Detective Conan is still running after all these years. I know that it’s not unusual for a strong manga or anime to keep going and going even though the terms under which the overall story will have to be resolved (whether happily or unhappily) are obvious from the very beginning (Ranma 1/2, anyone?). So I understand that Detective Conan will not, and should not end until it either loses its mojo with the reading public or all the ways in which Aoyama-sensei can vary his premise have been exhausted. But seriously: How long can he keep Shin’ichi Kudo trapped in a little kid’s body like that? I mean, that’s just cruel....
