Manga News You Can Use: Rin-ne to be Simulcast

Well, not really simulcast, but as a sports fan raised in the broadcasting age, I’ve always liked that word. The news is that Viz (of course) will publish an English translation of Rumiko Takahashi’s new manga in sync with its Japanese publication in Shonen Sunday via a dedicated website. Which means, apparently, that her North American gaijin fans will not have to rely on fan translations and scans, and that we’ll be able to plunge right in starting next week.

As far as I can tell, Viz will not charge anything to access the Rin-ne translation, and it will be the full, complete, real thing — not teaser content to encourage sales of the printed comic (and eventually, the graphic novels). If so, I wonder about Viz’s  business model and how they expect to get a return on their investment.... The fullness of time will reveal all, I suppose.

This news comes, BTW, from Rumic World, who got it from Anime News Network, which in turn credits Publishers Weekly. Such is the gathering of news in the Internet Age.
